Overview

La Manigua Lodge sits where the Colombian Amazon and Orinoco regions meet, on the banks of the Guayabero River, about 30 minutes upstream from the town of La Macarena. The setting alone is part of the draw: the lodge is fully immersed in jungle, framed by the Sierra de La Macarena National Natural Park, and built specifically to put guests in close, comfortable contact with that landscape rather than insulating them from it.It’s a genuinely eco-luxury property, solar-powered, built with biodegradable amenities, and designed around minimal environmental impact, but without sacrificing the comfort a high-end traveler expects. The river transfer to get there (about 30 minutes by boat) is itself a small safari: turtles, birds, monkeys, and, with some luck, pink river dolphins are commonly spotted along the way.

Why We Recommend It

it’s the one property in the region that treats comfort as seriously as it treats the landscape. Most accommodation near Caño Cristales is genuinely basic: simple guesthouses in town, no hot water, shared facilities. La Manigua is the exception. It gives you hot water, real privacy, and thoughtfully designed cabins, while still keeping you fully inside the jungle experience that makes this trip worth taking in the first place. It’s also simply well-run: the on-river location cuts down on daily transit time to the park, the restaurant accommodates dietary needs properly (rare in such a remote setting), and the small scale of the lodge (a handful of cabins total) means a more personal, less crowded stay than larger operations in town.
