12 Days in Colombia: Bogotá, the Amazon Rainforest and Medellin

12 Days in Colombia: From Bogotá culinary, Medellin’s Innovation to the Deep Colombian Amazon

Claudia and Gustavo are two Colombian siblings who have spent most of their adult lives in Sweden.

When they decided to spend their Spring Break 2026 in Colombia, they weren’t looking for a typical vacation. They wanted something deeper: an opportunity to reconnect with the country where they were born.

Like many people who have lived abroad for years, they still had strong family ties to Colombia, but they weren’t sure what kind of experiences would help them reconnect with the country beyond the memories of childhood.

Together, we designed a journey that combined nature, culture, history, and meaningful human connections without sacrificing comfort. In fact, some of their favorite memories came not only from the destinations themselves, but from the warmth of the people they met along the way: guides, drivers, hotel staff, local hosts, and communities who welcomed them with genuine hospitality.

Bogotá

Rediscovering Familiar Flavors

Their journey began with one of the most authentic experiences the city has to offer: a traditional market tour and fruit tasting.

What seemed like a simple activity quickly became an emotional one. Flavors they had not tasted in years instantly brought back memories and stories from another stage of life.

The Colombian Amazon trip

The next stop was the Amazon. A Different Kind of Connection

For nearly a week, they explored one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. Navigating rivers, learning about native species and medicinal plants, and spending time with local communities gave them a completely different perspective on Colombia.

The Amazon wasn’t just a destination. It became a powerful reminder of the extraordinary natural heritage that forms part of their identity.

Before deciding where to go, ask yourself:

Do I want adventure and wildlife, or comfort and culture?

Am I interested in remote destinations like the Amazon?

Do I prefer a slower pace or a more active trip?

Based on these questions, most travelers fall into one of two categories: Adventurous or Classic.

Below are two complete and realistic 2-week Colombia itineraries that actually work.

🏙️ Medellín:

Medellín Tour: Understanding Transformation

In Medellín, they joined both a city tour and a memory-focused experience that explored the city’s recent history.

Beyond the iconic landmarks, what stood out most was understanding the transformation that has taken place over the past decades and hearing the stories behind it. It was an opportunity to see Colombia through a lens of resilience, innovation, and hope.

🍫 A Cacao Experience with Purpose

Their final experience may have been the most meaningful.

They visited a family-run cacao project created by a family that benefited from Colombia’s land restitution program. Through agriculture and tourism, they have rebuilt their livelihoods and created new opportunities for future generations.

While learning about the entire cacao process, from cultivation to tasting, Claudia and Gustavo also learned a story of resilience, perseverance, and community.

A story that reminds us that tourism can create genuine impact when it connects travelers with the people behind a destination.

At the end of the journey, one thought stayed with all of us:

Reconnecting with our roots does not always mean returning to the place where we were born. Sometimes it means discovering the places we never had the opportunity to know.

And perhaps that is one of the most meaningful forms of travel.

The Power of Meaningful Travel

At the end of their 12 days, one thought stayed with all of us:

“Traveling with purpose does not just mean visiting new places. It means allowing those places, and the people who live there, to change how you see the world.”

And perhaps that is the most rewarding form of travel.
